Veronica Furey graduated from her BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science with a 1st class degree at the University of Stirling in 2020. Her honours project focused on the response of large mammals to restored patches of woodland in central Scotland, and how woodland loss and fragmentation is affecting UK’s biodiversity. Its main objective was to determine which characteristics of the woodland patches have an influence on large mammals. To achieve this, she used camera traps for data collection, and GLMs (Generalised Linear Models) in R for data analysis. This helped Veronica become familiar with the manipulation and analysis of large datasets. As part of her honours project, she worked along the WrEN Project, which is a long-term large-scale natural experiment that focuses on investigating the effects that habitat restoration and creation have on biodiversity.
Different modules and residential field trips that were part of her degree have helped Veronica develop strong fieldwork, sampling and data analysis skills, as well as an understanding of the role that Carbon plays in natural cycles. Veronica is also confident with mapping software such as ArcMap, QGIS and Harris ENVI.


Research Interests:

Veronica main research interests are carbon capture technologies, carbon-negative energies, mitigation of anthropogenic impacts on natural systems, Reforestation.
