Starting in 2005, FameLab has quickly become an exciting competition to find the new voices of science and engineering across the world. This year, one of the participants is a staff member of CICCS, Dr. Yolanda Fernandez Diez. During one of the Heats celebrated in Edinburgh, Yolanda found herself performing to a near-full auditorium and captivating the audience with her passion about Science and Engineering. In just only 3 minutes, Yolanda revealed the big secrets of her research – CO2 photoreduction – and how it will impact society in future – which left the public thinking about the benefits of Science to our everyday life.
One of the members of the jury recognised to be interested and amazed on how CO2 photoreduction technology could contribute to cut our energy bills by hundreds of pounds and simultaneously protect the planet!
Working in partnership with the British Council this global competition has already seen more than 5000 young scientists and engineers participating in over 23 different countries from Hong Kong to South Africa, USA to Egypt. FameLab not only inspires the next generation of science communicators but excels at building the skills that will enable scientists and engineers to explain, debate, discussed and be challenged. Furthermore, FameLab contestants are coached and mentored by some of the best science communicators in the world.
