Lokuge Aravindani Malaki Fernando

PhD Student

School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, Institute of Mechanical, Process & Energy Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Riccarton, UK

Biography

Malaki completed her BSc in Sri Lanka with a focus on Chemistry and pursued Geology and Physics as minor subjects. She then joined the PSL University in Paris to pursue an MSc in Integrative Chemistry and Innovation.

Malaki has been involved in several multi-disciplinary projects since the beginning of her research carrier. Her interest in contributing to the net-zero emission target emerged during her master’s studies, where she became convinced that it is a global priority. She is highly interested in synthesising materials that have a direct impact on positive emissions. During the second year of her master’s programme, she worked on MOF materials for photocatalytic water splitting and hydrogen production under the supervision of Arianna Melillo, Georges Mouchaham and Christian Serre. As a results, she has gained experience in MOF engineering and characterisation.

To further explore her interests and dedicate herself to environmental and societal causes, she has now joined RCCS group at Heriot-Watt University. Outside of her academic pursuits, Malaki enjoys going on hikes, exploring nature and is more than happy to help others whenever she can.
