POaET: Performance of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Technologies

Summary

The POaET Project (Performance of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Technologies) is aiming to provide rigourous assessments of ocean alkalinity enhancement technologies through a combined techno-economic and environmental assessment.

Description

Carbon dioxide removal is recognised as an important part of meeting the climate change target. Several CO2 removal approaches remain poorly understood with different merits and drawbacks. Upon completion of this ambitious projects, POaET aims to provide detailed technical assessments of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) approaches using a harmonised framework for life cycle and techno-economic assessment. The project will then use this framework to develop specific case studies for technology assessment.

The team will work with a range of international stakeholders, technology developers, and scientists (including colleagues from SeaO2-CDR and OceanNets projects) to develop a framework for the performance assessment of methods of increasing Ocean alkalinity.
