Eva Sanchez Fernandez has joined the Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage in March 2016 as Research Associate to work on the modelling and design of reactors for CO2 photo-reduction. Eva is a chemical engineer by training (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain). She started her research career in the pharmaceutical industry in The Netherlands and received a P.D. Eng in Biochemical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology; a Dutch qualification for professional engineers.
She held various positions at TNO (Dutch institution for applied scientific research) in the Netherlands, where she contributed to the development of numerous scientific projects in the field of separation technology. Her key expertise is in the design and development of novel technology, conceptual design, modelling and validation at pilot scale. She has been instrumental in the development and optimisation of membrane pervaporation modules for the recovery of organics, membrane contactors for CO2 separation, and precipitating amino acid solvent systems for the CO2 capture, which ultimately lead to the completion of her PhD thesis in collaboration with the Process and Energy department at the Delft University of Technology.
Before her current position at the CICCS, Eva joined the University of Edinburgh in 2013 as Research Associate where she had a leading role in modelling CO2 capture systems and power plants. Her research covered the detail operation of power plants with carbon capture at design and off-design conditions and the interfaces between the capture plant, transportation system and the injection system.
