Nazia Farooqui is a Research Associate in the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering (IMPEE). Nazia holds an MRes degree in Environmental Analysis and Assessment in the School of Life Sciences and Ph.D. in oilfield Chemicals in the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, both from Heriot-Watt University and also holds MSc degree in Chemistry from India and PG Diploma in Patent Law from National Law Institute University, Bhopal, India.
The topic of her Ph.D. research was ‘A Detailed Study of the Scale Inhibitor Phase Envelope of PPCA in the context of Precipitation Squeeze Treatments’. She worked on the retention and precipitation mechanism of the polymeric scale inhibitor (SI), phosphino polycarboxylic acid (PPCA). Specifically, her research includes the development of new methodologies for the phase separation of the polymeric SIs, and also to develop the full understanding of the mechanism of precipitation squeezes, molecular weight distribution (MWD) and retention properties of polymeric SIs. She worked with the flow system at high temperature, at multiple flow rates and various post flush brine composition was used to evaluate the hypothesis established from static studies for PPCA will be applicable in the real flow system.
Nazia’s research interest includes fluid-rock interaction, CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers, EOR, oilfield chemicals and water chemistry and flow assurance.
