Laura has been working as research associate for the Institute for Energy Systems at the University of Edinburgh for six years where she acquired extensive experience in flue gas cleaning systems and low carbon processes by conducting process modelling (gPROMS/ASPEN) of integrated processes. Her research interest is focused developing and integrating operation strategies and design synergies to minimise investment and operation cost incurred by the carbon capture processes. She has been actively involved in knowledge transfer and dissemination presenting the research work at cross-disciplinary national and international conferences. She has helped to reinforce strategic collaborations between academia and industrial partners, such as Howden, through an EPRSC Impact Acceleration Award projects. She was involved in experimental test campaigns as part of her placements at the CCPilot 100+ carbon capture pilot plant at Ferrybridge power station (Yorkshire, UK) and Alstom Power ECS R&D execution (Växjö, Sweden).
Laura has a MEng in Chemical Engineering from Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), a MEng in Energy Generation from the University of Liverpool (UK) and a PhD in Power plant engineering and Carbon Capture and Storage from the University of Edinburgh (UK). Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh, Laura worked for three years for Foster Wheeler, a global engineering company, as a process engineer on the design and implementation of Low-NOx burners and Selective catalytic reduction systems for coal-fired power plants and natural gas combined cycle plants.

Research Interests:

Laura’s main research areas are Low carbon technologies, negative emissions technology, life cycle analysis, low carbon hydrogen, energy systems.
