Biography

Dr. Dan SU received her bachelor’s degree in Architectural Environment & Equipment Engineering from the Hebei University of Engineering in 2012 and her MSc degree in Sustainable Energy Systems from the University of Edinburgh in 2013. From 2014 to 2019, she worked as a system application engineer for Johnson Controls. She worked as part of large-scale industrial heating & refrigeration team in Beijing and the Project Engineering Centre in Shanghai, providing heat pump solutions for Combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Northern China and high-specific gas compressors for overseas projects.

She pursued her PhD degree in the University of Edinburgh from 2019 to 2023. Her PhD researches Thermal integration of waste-to-energy (WtE) plants with CO2 capture technologies, focusing on negative emissions and ultra-high CO2 capture by MEA solvent. During her PhD, she worked as a research assistant for the NEWEST-CCUS project funded by the ERA-NET Accelerating CCS Technologies (ACT2) initiative to assess the scale of the European market for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies in the WtE sector. She is responsible for two project deliverables: WP_5.2 Process simulation of MSW combustion in an air-fired grate boiler with amine-based post-combustion carbon capture and WP_5.3 Comparative assessment of CO2 capture technologies for WtE sector.

Currently, Dan SU is a research associate at the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS) at Heriot-Watt University. Her research will be focused on Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) for CDR technologies and systems, particularly TEA for artificial nickel laterites for CO2 removal and critical metal recovery.
