Biography
Susana García serves as a Full Professor in Chemical and Process Engineering and Deputy Head at Heriot-Watt University’s Institute of Mechanical, Process, and Energy Engineering, bringing a wealth of leadership and experience to her roles. She is also an Associate Director at RCCS, leading on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage research programs, which highlights her commitment to tackling environmental challenges through innovative solutions. In 2023, she further broadened her academic and research horizons by spending seven months as an Invited Visiting Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, contributing to its academic excellence.
Her journey in Chemical Engineering began with a solid foundation, earning her PhD from the University of Nottingham (UK) in 2010, after completing her MEng at the University of Oviedo, Spain. Her post-doctoral work at the Spanish National Coal Research Institute (INCAR-CSIC) further honed her research skills. Prof García’s career, marked by continuous growth and a humble pursuit of knowledge, underscores her significant contributions to engineering and environmental science.

Her research focuses on designing novel materials and processes to efficiently mitigate carbon emissions in different power and industrial sectors and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Her team at HWU has changed the paradigm on how novel processes based on advanced materials are designed by integrating process engineering and basic science.
