Stelios started his academic career as a civil engineer in the Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th) in Greece, where he obtained a Bachelor degree (7.29/10 Very Good, equivalent with 2:1 Honours). He excelled at his Masters of civil engineering where graduated with a Thesis grade of (10/10 Excellent, equivalent of Distinction). He then applied for another MSc from the University of Glasgow on “Sustainable Energy”. Before finishing his MSc, he applied to the CRITICAT CDT and could secure funding from EPSRC to do his PhD at Heriot-Watt University.

He is interested in developing novel TiO2 based catalysts for the photo-reduction of CO2 to solar fuels. He will use co-doping and semiconductor coupling among other techniques to further enhance the optical, electronic, textural, and chemical properties of the catalyst for the production of methanol and other fuels. Additionally, he is interested in studying the kinetics of the reaction and developing a continuous flow micro-photoreactor, and comparing its performance with other photo-reactor designs.

Research Interests:

His main research interests are Solar fuels, CO2 photoreduction, TiO2 photocatalysis, methane, methanol, Sustainability, TiO2 catalysis, sol-gel synthesis, semiconductor coupling, TiO2 doping, Co-doping, Metal/non-metal co-doping, sustainable development.
