Biography:

Puyan Bakhshi received both his BSc and MSc degrees in Hydrocarbon Reservoir Engineering from the Petroleum University of Technology.  As his master’s thesis project, he examined the performance of carbonated water flooding as a joint method of EOR and CO₂ storage in an Iranian oilfield through sets of core flooding experiments.

After graduation, Puyan began working as a Reservoir Engineer at the Reservoir Engineering Studies Dept of the National Iranian South Oil Co  (NISOC). As one of his main assignments, he investigated the necessity and performance of gas injection in the oil fields of NISOC.  Puyan later worked as a lab technician at two different companies specializing in core analysis and PVT analysis, before finally joining the Persia Oil & Gas Industry Development Co (POGIDC).  At POGIDC, he worked as a member of a multi-disciplinary team performing a field development study of an Iranian giant oilfield.

Presently, Puyan is a PhD student at the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, where he is a member of the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS).  He has been assigned to MILEPOST, a project which intends to improve the understanding of multiphase flow mechanisms. His research study will focus on the effect of salt precipitation on geological CO₂ storage processes. He designed and developed an in-situ micro-CT core flood rig to investigate CO₂ injection in natural porous media and studying the mechanics of the resulted salt precipitations at the pore scale. To complement that line of investigation, he studies the petrophysical impact of salt deposition on rock samples at the Darcy scale.

Research Interests:

Puyan's main research interests are Geological CO₂ Storage, X-ray Microtomography, In-Situ Micro-CT Scanning, EOR Processes, Reservoir Rock & Fluid Analysis.
