Matthew completed his MChem in Chemistry at Heriot-Watt University in 2018. His final year project concerned the development of a catalyst for the production of polylactide under the supervision of Dr Ruaraidh McIntosh. This work led to an interest in sustainable chemistry and developed his skills to handle air-sensitive materials. After completing his MChem Matthew joined the 5th cohort of the CRITICAT CDT where he spent six months at St Andrews University. Here he worked with Dr Julia Payne on a 10-week project developing lead and bismuth perovskites for photovoltaic applications. Matthew will now be working with Dr Susana Garcia in developing a catalytic system that will capture CO2 from flue gas and other anthropogenic sources and convert it to hydrocarbon fuels and other value-added products.

Research Interests:

His main research areas are Sustainable Chemistry, CO2 capture and utilisation, catalysis, methanol, CO2 reduction.
